Idaho Education News welcomes reporter Carly Flandro to its staff this week.

Flandro comes to the newsroom straight from the classroom. For the past eight years she has taught English at Century High School in Pocatello. Prior to that, she spent a school year at American Falls High as a paraprofessional.

Flandro has also worked as a reporter for the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, where she covered county government, environmental news and political news. In her time there, she wrote about topics ranging from grizzly bear attacks to gubernatorial campaigns.

Flandro holds a master’s degree in English from Idaho State University and a bachelor’s degree in print journalism and Spanish from the University of Montana.

“We’re so lucky to have found an educator to join our reporting team,” said EdNews managing editor Jennifer Swindell. “Her professional and educational experience will be an instant benefit to EdNews.”

Flandro looks forward to contributing to Idaho’s education community through  her experiences in Idaho schools. She plans to cover how legislation and policies impact K-12 students, teachers, support staff, administrators and parents. She will also focus on diversity and equity in education.

Flandro was born and raised in Pocatello, where she lives now. She joins assistant editor and reporter Devin Bodkin at EdNews’ East Idaho bureau.
