Italian exchange student helping CM Russell High tennis stay unbeaten
If this reporter ended up to try to compose this story in Luca Alvisi’s indigenous language, the headline over would browse as follows — and I am quoting the Google English-to-Italian translation guidebook — “Studente italiano in scambio che aiuta CMR a rimanere imbattuto.”
Alvisi, a junior at C.M. Russell Superior Faculty, is a overseas exchange college student from Italy. And when it arrives to athletics, he has two loves: soccer and tennis.
And appropriate now, with the spring sports activities timetable in comprehensive swing, the Rustlers tennis staff is benefitting from his play. At the No. 2 singles spot, Alvisi has not missing a match this year. Many thanks to Alvisi and his teammate at No. 3 singles, Clay Walker — also undefeated — the Rustlers are 13- in twin matches this calendar year soon after wins over Bozeman Higher and Bozeman Gallatin.
The Rustler boys are headed into the remaining week of the frequent season in very good shape. Tuesday, they head to Kalispell to consider on Flathead and defending state Course AA winner Glacier. On Thursday, it’s Crosstown from Fantastic Falls Substantial at the CMR Tennis Courts.
Alvisi is savoring his time on this side of the pond. Prior to this time, it had been “five, 6 many years” considering that he had been in a position to engage in tennis on his native soil.
“I have normally appreciated tennis, and I played each soccer and tennis, but about 5 or six several years back, the (schoolwork) became as well much, so I had to make a selection,” Alvisi mentioned. “And I selected soccer.
“I am content that I can enjoy proper now. I like my teammates, I assume we have a very good shot this yr we’ve been accomplishing fairly fantastic so significantly.”
Towards Bozeman, previous year’s state runner up, Alvisi scored a 6-1, 6-4 victory above Pau Casas, then stopped Emerson Fry of Gallatin 6-appreciate, 6-appreciate, and served set the tone as the Rustlers downed the Hawks 7-1 right before dispatching the Raptors 5-3.
The secret to Alvisi’s success in the wake of not playing competitive tennis for these a prolonged time is a little something Allen Iverson would not want to hear: Practice.
“I can say that I’ve been working really challenging in observe,” he explained. “Carson (Abundant, CMR’s No. 1 singles) has been encouraging me get much better every single day he is a genuinely fantastic participant, also.
“We are all looking forward to divisionals and point out. Next week we have Kalispell and Excellent Falls Superior, and we are hunting forward to finishing the period undefeated.”
Walker continued his roll, having down Bozeman’s Evan McKinley in straight sets of 6-1, 6-1, then took treatment of the Raptors’ Wynn Wagner 6-2 and 6-3.
The best a few doubles groups for the Rustlers — Carter Corn/Josh Stimac, Noah Stimac/Brady Pike and Brady Corn/Aedan Bingham — also scored two wins just about every.
CMR head mentor Byron Boyd noted that this weekend was Bozeman’s prom weekend, and the Hawks’ coach advised him quite a few of his top rated players experienced to miss out on Saturday’s matches, leaving JV players to fill the open slots.
Meanwhile, THE RUSTLER Ladies are on a roll of their very own in downing the Girl Hawks and Girl Raptors by equivalent finals of 6-2.
At 12-1, the CMR girls also head into the ultimate week of frequent period levels of competition obtaining to come to feel really great about on their own. They completed in a tie with Helena Money for fourth location in 2021, just four points out of the hardware.

FOR Fantastic FALLS HIGH’S teams, 2021 has been a discovering system.
Just a few of days soon after knocking off Belgrade, the Bison boys could only get a single match acquire and shed 7- to Gallatin and 6-1 to Bozeman.
The No. 1 doubles group of Copper Reitz and Connor Sturgess outlasted the Hawks’ top rated duo of Oliver Ward and Henry Riendeau 6-3, 6-4 for the only earn of the day.
The Girl Bison, even so, aided relieve the sting by tying Bozeman at 4-all soon after Gallatin walked previous the GFH girls 7-1.
