SALT LAKE Metropolis (AP) — A Saudi Arabian trade university student has pleaded guilty in a Utah rape circumstance.

The Every day Herald reports that 28-yr-outdated Monsour Alshammari was sentenced to a calendar year in jail Tuesday following pleading guilty to a felony rape cost in a offer with prosecutors. An obstruction of justice demand was dismissed in trade for his plea.

Alshammari was accused of assaulting a lady at his Orem apartment after a day in February.

He was arrested at the Mexican border in April. Prosecutors say he was making an attempt to flee.

He apologized Tuesday and explained that the assault was not intentional. He was also purchased to fork out $6,000 in restitution.

His attorney Ron Yengich states Alshammari will likely be deported to Saudi Arabia right after serving his time.
